Individual Courses

‘Include children experiencing barriers to
learning and development in ECD settings’

12 credits – NQF 3

This course is suitable for anyone working with young children and who desires to commit themselves to the government policy of inclusion in their pre-schools. 

Course includes: 

  • Understanding Inclusion

  • Identifying special needs

  • Identifying barriers to learning

  • Building relationships with direct role-players

  • Building relationships with indirect role players

  • How to meet special needs appropriately

  • How to overcome barriers

  • Planning, recording and evaluating.

Duration of course:           1 week
 

Please note that a portfolio of assignments must be
completed and the learner found to be competent in order to receive credits.

Psycho-Social courses for people working with orphaned children and teenagers


Aimed at orphan-heads of households, these provide support for teenagers who have experienced trauma and bereavement. They equip them with simple budgeting, cooking, child-care skills.  Teenagers are given the opportunity to learn how to be assertive, to communicate effectively and to be effective role-models for their siblings.  During the workshops they go on team-building exercises and face new challenges.

Child Communication Part 1

These courses are essential for pre-school teachers, teachers, social workers, care workers, orphan care workers, in fact anyone working and living with children.

First Stage:
Course includes:

  • Basic concepts of systems theory

  • Rights and responsibilities of the child and the adult

  • Nutrition and health

  • Problems experienced by children

  • Indication of problems in children

  • Five types of expressing love

Child Communication Part 2

Second stage

  • The impact of HIV/AIDS on children and the family

  • Loss/death/bereavement from a child’s perspective

  • How to talk to children about death

  • Preparation for death (emotional support)

  • Child abuse/types of abuse/dynamics of family and adults who abuse children

  • Therapeutic games

  • Your own attitudes (knowing yourself)

  • Conflict Resolution

This unit standard is for people who moderate or intend to moderate assessments against unit standards and/or qualifications. The course is offered in association with Learning Performance Link. A prerequisite is that the “Assessment in the Workplace” course is completed first.
